Yankees news: Cam Schlittler's 1.71 ERA hits low not seen since 1964
Cam Schlittler delivered a dominant start at Yankee Stadium Friday, fanning a career-high 13 Reds over six scoreless innings and lowering his AL-leading ERA to 1.71. The right-hander allowed four hits, issued zero walks, and earned his eighth win to move to 8-3 on the season while throwing 96 pitches, 66 for strikes. His 13-strikeout, no-walk outing marked the youngest Yankees pitcher since Al Downing in 1964 to achieve such a line at 25 years, 134 days, and tied for the fourth-lowest ERA through 16 starts in MLB history. Schlittler relied heavily on a velocity-heavy arsenal, including a 97.9 mph four-seam, a sinker, and a cutter, with the sinker used 41 times and the four-seamer 32 times. Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in his return, and Ben Rice hit a three-run shot for New York, which tacked on insurance runs and rode to its eighth shutout of the season as the bullpen preserved the 5-0 victory.
