Yemen's Saudi-backed government announces major offensive against Iran-backed Houthis | CNN
Yemen’s Saudi-backed government announced the start of a major military operation aimed at pushing back recent advances by the Iran-backed Houthis. Speaking in a televised address on Sunday, Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s presidential council, said the campaign is intended to retake remaining territory held by the Houthis and restore state authority across the country. The announcement follows a Houthi offensive last month along the Red Sea coast that seized control of a key port and increased pressure on international shipping. Al-Alimi cited continued Houthi mobilization, escalation, and attacks, including threats to civilians and shipping lanes. The Houthis reported Saudi airstrikes on Sanaa Saturday and early Sunday, while the Saudi coalition did not confirm them.
