Ahead of Apple TV’s Dark Matter Season 2 premiere on August 28, the series’ fans are being pointed to Starz’s two-season sci-fi thriller Counterpart. Created by Justin Marks (who later co-created the Emmy-winning Shōgun), Counterpart ran for two seasons starting with its 2017 launch. The story follows Howard Silk, played by J.K. Simmons, who works at the Office of Interchange and discovers the existence of a parallel world, Prime, after meeting his counterpart. Set in Berlin, it mixes alternate-Earth mystery with espionage and centers on a terrorist group called “Others” seeking revenge for a Prime-side flu pandemic tied to the mid-’90s.
