Australia collapse in chaotic fashion to leave South Africa in sight of victory - AOL
Australia’s second Test against South Africa in Gqeberha is slipping toward another heavy defeat after 99 all out on day four, with South Africa taking the lead at the halfway point. After the home side surged past 400, Australia reached 156 for four early yet lost wickets in clusters, leaving it 170 runs behind as more batting failures opened the door for an unfavorable result. Nic Maddinson, who made only four balls in the first innings, was out shortly after lunch in the second, and the team saw nine additional wickets fall in 38.3 overs. Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada combined pace and movement, and several dismissals came from risky shot-making by Alex Carey, Beau Webster, and Mitchell Starc, among others. Steve Smith finished on 28, his innings affected by a neck problem. South Africa, with a lead of 326 and about a session and a half left, continued bowling as Nortje, despite a groin strain, had already delivered only 3.3 overs.
