Bloomington Bluegrass Fest showcases traditional and progressive bluegrass music
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Bloomington Bluegrass Fest returns for its second year on June 13 at Upland Brewing Co. in Bloomington, offering nine acts that blend traditional and progressive bluegrass from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Organizer Jeff Shew emphasizes affordability, charging $20 per ticket and $15 for multiple-ticket purchases via Eventbrite. Boozehounds Bluegrass, The Fun Dunns, Blue Flame Music, Nectar Valley, Low Landers, Banister Bluegrass, Bobbie Lancaster and The Wild Mercy, and headliner New Old Cavalry are among the scheduled performers. The lineup reflects a community eager to preserve heritage while embracing modern interpretations of the genre.
Shew notes the festival is the second in a planned four‑festival year, with Bloomington as a cornerstone for Indiana’s bluegrass scene. Boozehounds Bluegrass is highlighted for its energetic Midwest sound and prolific touring, averaging about 60 shows annually. The festival’s timing and pricing are designed to attract families and serious listeners alike, while the event’s broader aim is to expand the regional footprint of bluegrass. New Old Cavalry will cap the night from 9:45 p.m. to 11 p.m., with other acts supporting a diverse program that showcases both tradition and innovation within the genre.
