Bono and Eddie Vedder Lead Musical Tributes at Glen Hansard's Dublin Funeral

U.S. and Irish music stars joined family, friends, and fans at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin for Glen Hansard’s funeral on August 4. Hansard, the Irish singer-songwriter, died at 56 after a motorcycle crash on July 29. During the service, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder performed “The Song of Good Hope,” with Markéta Irglová, Hansard’s longtime collaborator in The Swell Season and co-writer of “Falling Slowly,” which won an Academy Award for the 2007 film Once. Bono addressed the congregation and shared a recorded message from Patti Smith. He also recited lyrics from U2’s “Beautiful Day,” joined by attendees inside the cathedral. The event brought together musicians and actors including The Edge, Hozier, Imelda May, Steve Coogan, and Chris O’Dowd, and honored Hansard’s work with The Frames, his solo career, and annual Christmas Eve charity performances in Dublin.
