Cameras catch Mexico boss trolling Anthony Gordon as ex-Newcastle player bemused
Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre was caught on camera trolling Anthony Gordon during the first-half hydration break of Mexico’s World Cup round of 16 match against England. With the score at 0-0, broadcast footage showed Aguirre calling out to “Gordon,” after which Gordon turned, appeared to register what was said, and quickly smiled while looking bemused. Aguirre was also seen exchanging words with Jude Bellingham during the same pause. Just 20 seconds later, Gordon latched onto a long kick forward by Jordan Pickford, held the ball in, beat Jorge Sánchez and fired England’s first shot. England then scored twice through Bellingham within 98 seconds, before Mexico reduced the deficit. England advanced to the quarter-finals despite being reduced to 10 men after Jarell Quansah’s early second-half red card.
