Celebrity guest stars for new Call the Midwife series revealed as filming begins

Celebrity guest stars for Call The Midwife’s new spin-off have been revealed as filming begins on a three-part Christmas special. The 1939-set prequel, Sisters In Arms, explores the early days of Nonnatus House during the Blitz and interlinks with the original show’s nurses, midwives, and Anglican nuns. Julie Hesmondhalgh will play Sister Alice, Bally Gill portrays Dr Kit Malhotra, while Jenny Agutter narrates as the older Sister Julienne and Helena Wilson appears as a younger version of the character. The ensemble also includes younger takes on other familiar roles, with Martin McCann and others joining the cast. Showrunner Heidi Thomas described Sisters In Arms as a meditation on women’s resilience during war, blending medical drama with wartime perseverance and the series’ distinctive warmth.
