Dawn Porter to Director Documentary on Pioneering TV News Anchor Max Robinson

Dawn Porter will direct a feature documentary about pioneering Black TV news anchor Max Robinson for Wise Child Studios. The film, titled “Color Bars: The Story of the Black Journalist Who Broke the TV News Color Barrier,” is set to explore the rise and fall of Robinson’s broadcast-news career. CNN anchor Victor Blackwell is a producer. Porter, whose credits include 2020’s “John Lewis: Good Trouble” and 2018’s “Bobby Kennedy for President,” will produce through her Trilogy Films banner, while Blackwell produces through his Fresh Fruit Films. Robinson joined ABC News’ national anchor team in 1978 after prominence in Washington, D.C., but his tenure ended early as he struggled with alcohol abuse. He died in December 1988 at 49 from AIDS complications.
