Disney has officially cancelled the next Planet Of The Apes movie, signaling a reboot rather than a sequel for the franchise. Kingdom of the Planet Of The Apes (2024) grossed about $397.4 million worldwide, underscoring the financial scale of the series. In May 2026, Disney announced the upcoming project would be a reboot, not a sequel, marking a strategic pivot after the concluded arc of the previous reboot. The franchise began with 1968’s original film, and the modern reboot sequence launched in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, continuing through Kingdom in 2024.

Although plans for a sequel to Kingdom were once in development, Disney’s May 2026 decision shifts focus to a fresh start for the franchise going forward.
