The 1.25-mile paved path runs between Ogunquit and Perkins Cove and traces a cliffside shoreline that dates back to 1925. Donations and preservation efforts extended the route, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2022 and named among USA TODAY's Most Treasured Views in 2025. Our late-May visit coincided with lighter crowds before Memorial Day, and the route offers multiple Shore Road access points for a relaxed stroll. We parked at Hutchins Commons past Cumberland Farms on U.S. Route 1, paying $10. From there, a short walk behind Cumbies led to Shore Road and the coastal path. There are several midway access points along Shore Road, with the north entrance offering a convenient starting point. Marginal Way's 1.25 miles offer scenic views of rockbound cliffs and the ocean, preserving a nearly century of public history.
