DWP says state pensioners sent letters as free TV licence pushed

The Department for Work and Pensions has begun sending letters to state pensioners to promote Pension Credit, a tax-free benefit that can boost weekly income to £238 for singles (£952 monthly) or £363.25 for couples and can unlock additional help. A free TV licence is available for those aged 75 or over who receive Pension Credit, even if the credit is in a partner’s name at the same address. Around 900,000 of the most financially vulnerable people have yet to claim Pension Credit. Pat McFadden confirmed the letters were being dispatched during a Commons committee hearing, as two-pronged outreach aims to raise uptake.
