Eyesore' Tube station getting a glow-up with hay bales, decorations and live music
Willesden Green Tube station is getting a “glow-up” aimed at reducing complaints about disorder by reactivating the area with decorations and live music. The initiative follows petitions started in May by local businesses and residents, urging Transport for London’s property arm to fill gaps created after the closure of the station’s main tenant, Nest cafe, in January. The family-run cafe reopened, and volunteers improved the outside terrace with new planters and seasonal blooms, funded through donations from supporters seeking a more welcoming look. The plan also involves London’s Mayor’s Summer Streets Fund, with outdoor programming planned through September. A local councillor, Saqlain Choudary, said temporary hay-bale seating, bunting, and lighting will be introduced between Willesden Green station, Station Parade, and Poplars Avenue, alongside 10 busking and cultural performance sessions. Responses were mixed, with some citing safety concerns about sitting on hay bales in the evening.
