Florida Deputy Kidnapped, Killed Girlfriend After TV Fight
A Florida sheriff’s deputy allegedly kidnapped and fatally shot his ex-girlfriend before turning the gun on himself, in what authorities described as an apparent murder-suicide following a dispute that investigators say began over a TV. On Aug. 10, the woman—whose name was not released publicly—returned to a home in Pinellas County with her two children, ages 12 and 9, and found Deputy Troy Savetz, 47, inside. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Savetz and the woman were in a tumultuous on-and-off relationship. Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said the confrontation started shortly after she arrived and that “Troy wants his TV back,” with disagreements over his belongings. Investigators said she tried to call 911 but Savetz prevented it, then drove away in a rental car. Authorities later found two bodies in the vehicle after spotting it near Platinum Drive.
