Florida man reveals bizarre trick that won Key lime pie-eating championship without using his hands
A Florida man’s Key lime pie eating strategy turned into the winning formula at the World Famous Key Lime Pie Eating Championship, eliminating whipped cream as the first obstacle. Kevin Renly, 62 and a resident of the Florida Keys, won in Key West by eating a 9-inch Key lime pie topped with whipped cream in 59.6 seconds without using his hands. The rules allowed eating hands-free while goggles and dive masks were permitted. Renly, who placed second in 2024 and 2025, said he took off his shirt and dove into the pie so the topping would land on his chest, then flipped the pie upside down to tackle the crust. The contest was part of the five-day Key Lime Festival and drew hundreds of spectators with 25 contestants. He co-owns Southernmost Bees with his wife, Julie, and said keeping the trophy in the Florida Keys was a key motivation.
