Iran executes 2 Islamic State members convicted of armed rebellion
Iran executed two members of the Islamic State after they were convicted of armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic, according to Iranian state television. The report said the men were Mohieddin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani, identified as belonging to an Islamic State cell that formed after the group’s territorial defeat in Iraq and Syria. Iranian authorities said the cell planned attacks inside Iran, and that security forces identified the group’s hideout in the Bamo mountain area near the Iraqi border before it could carry out its plans. The operation reportedly killed several militants and also resulted in the deaths of three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, along with the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and other equipment. The two men were hanged after Iran’s Supreme Court upheld their death sentences, and the judiciary did not disclose where the executions occurred.
