Just Realized Yellowstone's 5 Main Characters Are All Based On The Godfather's Corleone Family

A new ScreenRant comparison argues that Yellowstone’s main cast mirrors characters from The Godfather’s Corleone family. The article frames John Dutton (Kevin Costner) as Yellowstone’s “Vito Corleone,” citing his role as father figure and protector amid a changing political and economic world where keeping the Yellowstone Ranch is no longer clear-cut. It then parallels Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) with Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), highlighting Kayce’s military background and outsider status within his own family, plus a tense father-son dynamic. The piece also discusses the broader shared traits between Western and gangster stories—morally gray characters, quests for freedom, and violence that often draws in innocents.
