Los Angeles Production: TV Dramas A Bright Spot As Total Q2 Shoot Days Dip, FilmLA Says

Los Angeles production for the second quarter declined overall, but TV remained a bright spot, according to FilmLA. Total on-location shoot days were 4,711 in Q2, down 13% year over year, and below 5,121 shoot days in Q1. Television accounted for much of the shift: it rose 34% versus Q1 to 1,607 shoot days for the three months ended in June, while falling 28% compared with the prior year. TV dramas were down 6.4% year over year but increased 55% from Q1, while reality drove most of the category’s decline. FilmLA said incentivized productions represented 38.3% of shoot days in the category. Reported Q2 on-location dramas included Baywatch and Prison Break reboots and seasons of Ballard, Bosch: Start Of Watch, and The Night Agent Season 4. The nonprofit’s stats, released Thursday, also note California’s expanded tax credits enabled 41 new film projects announced in July.
