Lucky' is a crime series that starts mid-caper -- and dares you to keep up

Lucky is an Apple TV drama based on Marissa Stapley’s 2021 crime novel, debuting with the story already in mid-scheme and pushing viewers to keep pace. Anya Taylor-Joy plays Lucky, a shrewd con woman, who is introduced in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace with her husband, Cary, played by Drew Starkey. The couple celebrates having absconded with nearly $10 million in cash and plans to leave the country the next morning, but their theft is tangled in personal complications. Lucky’s father, now in federal prison, previously skimmed the money from a powerful criminal family and coached Lucky to trust no one, while Cary’s parents are the victims they intend to evade. The series uses a recurring cigarette-lighter motif and features an FBI pursuit led by Agent Rand, portrayed by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. The premiere eventually reveals supporting roles, including Timothy Olyphant and Annette Bening, and the show runs seven episodes.
