Netflix Cannes Acquisition 'La Bola Negra' Gets Fall Theatrical Release

Netflix has moved the theatrical release of Cannes winner La Bola Negra to Oct. 16, adding a 46-day run before the film lands on Netflix on Dec. 2. The Los Javis-directed movie will also get a U.S. platform release, and Netflix acquired rights in Canada, where it has been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Tribute Awards’ Special Presentations section. Penélope Cruz is set to receive a Special Tribute Award at TIFF. Earlier, Netflix had scheduled a Nov. 6 start for a 28-day window. The film, which spans nearly a century of Spanish history, received a 20-minute standing ovation at Cannes.
