Netflix Officially Cancels Its 2-Part Taylor Sheridan Replacement Western

Netflix has canceled Ransom Canyon after two seasons, ending the streamer’s attempt to build a Yellowstone-style successor. The decision comes about a month and a half after Season 2 premiered on July 23. Adapted by showrunner April Blair from Jodi Thomas’ long-running novel series, the neo-Western starred Josh Duhamel as rancher Staten Kirkland and Minka Kelly as dance hall owner Quinn O’Grady. While Season 1 drew roughly 65.6 million views across its run and entered Netflix’s top 10 in dozens of countries, Season 2 reportedly opened to a much smaller audience. Netflix’s production shares romantic tone and small-town power conflicts with the genre.
