Netflix's 4-Season Action Thriller Beats 'Reacher' At Its Own Game

Netflix’s The Night Agent is being positioned as a sharper, more evolving alternative to Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher in the action-thriller space, according to this review-style piece. While Reacher succeeds with a “self-contained action novel” structure—new setting, conspiracy, small team, and a repeatable formula—the article argues it rarely surprises viewers because it leans on Jack Reacher’s independence. The Night Agent, starting as a political thriller, has expanded into wider intelligence operations and national-security threats. It uses long-form continuity by leaving unresolved threads across seasons, with consequences carrying forward and threats emerging from past mistakes. The piece also highlights that the ensemble and uncertainty-driven plot—where allies can become suspects—creates a different tension dynamic, including a season 3 storyline involving a dark-money network in international locations.
