Netflix's Epic 6-Part Western Series Deserves A Renewal After Its Fate Remains Uncertain

Netflix’s Western race remains crowded, but American Primeval—an acclaimed six-episode miniseries—has reignited calls for a renewal despite uncertainty. The series, set amid the Utah War of the late 1850s, earned attention for its harsh cinematography and intense action, following Mormon settlers, members of the Shoshone Nation, bounty hunters and others with pasts tied to violence. While Netflix is known for canceling shows after one season, creator Mark L. Smith has suggested there may be a way to expand the story’s universe. Director Peter Berg has also discussed options to continue beyond the Season 1 ending, including possible prequel or anthology approaches.
