One Piece' character Monkey D. Luffy throws first pitch at Dodgers game

Monkey D. Luffy made a ceremonial appearance at a Major League Baseball game, tying the “One Piece” franchise to MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers. On Friday, MLB shared photos on its official Instagram account showing a mascot dressed as Luffy throwing the first pitch ahead of the Dodgers’ game against the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers’ social media also circulated a video of fans wearing Luffy hats. Before the match, player Kike Hernández posed with the character. MLB’s and Netflix/Crunchyroll’s “One Piece” spotlight also came as episode 1164 was released last month, digging deeper into the Elbaph arc. Meanwhile, a live release plan for “The One Piece” anime adaptation was announced for February 2027, produced by WIT Studio.
