Patti LaBelle headlines BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! benefit concert

Patti LaBelle headlined BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! with a benefit concert that combined R&B classics and local arts support. The 82-year-old singer returned to Brooklyn on Friday at the Lena Horne Bandshell in Prospect Park, where she was honored with a proclamation before performing. BRIC marked its 47th season serving communities across New York City, and the program placed community and culture at the center. New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and New York Attorney General Letitia James joined BRIC President Wes Jackson and other elected officials in presenting the proclamation recognizing LaBelle’s decades-long impact. She opened with the 1991 gospel-R&B classic “When You’ve Been Blessed,” then moved through fan favorites including “If You Asked Me To,” “Somebody Loves You” and “If Only You Knew.” Her set also included “Love, Need and Want You,” “On My Own,” “Isn’t It a Shame,” and closed with “Lady Marmalade.” MORERNBPLEASE opened, followed by Lady Wray.
