Police probe four deaths at shelter where Dexter fan killer lived

Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating four “unexplained” deaths at a homeless shelter in Cornwall where James Desborough once lived, after he was convicted of killing three people and is now classified as a serial killer. The deaths—two men and two women—occurred at Sandy Lodge Hotel in Newquay between December 2024 and April 2025, the report says. Officers responded to each incident and initially considered the deaths natural; cases were referred to the coroner before major inquiries resumed following Desborough’s arrest. Detective Superintendent Rachel Bentley said there is currently no belief of a link to Desborough, and he is not considered a suspect in other deaths. Desborough received a whole life order at Winchester Crown Court.
