Sheeran returns to stage after Palestine controversy

Ed Sheeran returns to the stage in Philadelphia on Saturday, Sept. 19, for his first show since controversy erupted over pro-Palestinian comments made by his opening act. Ahead of the concert at Lincoln Financial Field, police and protesters were expected following the recent removal of rapper Macklemore from Sheeran’s US Loop Tour. Stadium owners had objected to Macklemore shouting “Free Palestine” during a stop in New Jersey earlier this month. Sheeran denied involvement, saying the tour promoter made the decision. Four supporting acts, including Sheeran’s backing band and Finneas, later quit the tour. Sheeran said on Instagram he is “not complicit” but does not want his shows to become a political forum.
