The Beat | The Art of Beating and Bowing, On Parade
The Music Academy of the West (MAW) is ramping up its festival programming over the coming weeks, offering local music audiences several concerts highlighted by Percussionfest and the Academic Fellows Orchestra series. Percussionfest takes place Wednesday night at Hahn Hall, with a special family performance added for Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The orchestra centerpiece begins Friday at The Granada Theatre, while subsequent orchestra concerts are scheduled for Saturdays. The Friday program blends Gershwin’s American in Paris and Brahms’s Symphony No. 2, within the festival theme “An American Mosaic.” The article also points to a Teaching Artist Showcase concert at the Lobero, featuring a brief appearance by the Takács String Quartet. It notes the Takács’ recent all-Beethoven performance at the Lobero and a retirement celebration for cellist András Fejér, who served 51 years. Separately, the piece mentions Buckethead’s recent area appearance at the Ventura Majestic Theatre.
