The New Forest pub owned by rock royalty and frequented by donkeys!
The East End Arms in England’s New Forest has become a local landmark with a rock-star pedigree—and regular visitors that aren’t human. Owned since 1990 by Dire Straits founder and bassist John Illsley, the pub draws locals, music lovers, and tourists for its food, drink options, and relaxed rural atmosphere. It’s also a frequent stop for New Forest animals, especially donkeys, described as “daily patrons.” Illsley remains a standout constant from Dire Straits through 1995 and has collected multiple BRIT, Grammy, Heritage and Ivor Novello awards, plus a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. New general manager Sydney Blake, in post for a week, said many people ask when Illsley will be there. Recent “tent talks” sold out, and the menu highlights include Braised Ox Cheeks in Guinness. The pub has five double rooms for bookings.
