On August 31, Radio Nova’s music history feature looks back at several major pop-culture moments. In 1968, Decca Records released “Street Fighting Man,” written by Mick Jagger after he attended a March 1968 anti-war rally at London’s US embassy. In 1976, George Harrison was found guilty of “subconscious plagiarism” involving Ronnie Mack’s “He’s So Fine,” with Mack’s estate awarded earnings. In 1984, Prince’s film “Purple Rain” opened in cinemas, grossing more than US$80 million. Other highlights include Stevie Ray Vaughan’s 1990 memorial performance of “Amazing Grace” and the 2007 death of CBGB founder Hilly Kristal at 75.
