Vancouver Island-shot show lands on Netflix's top global hits list

Crew Girl, a sports romance series filmed on Vancouver Island, has landed on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list after debuting Sept. 10. The eight-part show reached No. 4, drawing 5.2 million viewers across 80 countries in its opening weekend. Produced by Blue Ant Studios, it follows Teagan Tao, a 16-year-old single sculler whose rowing future is derailed by a family scandal. Teagan is forced to leave California for Eagle’s Cove, a fictional Massachusetts town, where she discovers Easton Prep lacks a girls’ rowing team. Her path back to the water comes as coxswain for the school’s boys’ varsity crew team. Although set on the U.S. East Coast, the series was shot around Victoria, using local sites including Selkirk Waterfront and the Victoria City Rowing Club.
