Water Rescue: Deputy Saves Missing 9-Year-Old With Autism In Hollywood

A St. Mary’s County sheriff’s deputy conducted a water rescue in Hollywood, Maryland, saving a missing 9-year-old child with autism after an extensive search on Friday. The child was reported missing on July 17, 2026, prompting responses from multiple agencies in the Hollywood area. The coordinated search included the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack, the Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland State Police Aviation Command’s Trooper 7, and the St. Mary’s County Department of Emergency Services, along with local fire and EMS teams. Search crews located the child in a nearby body of water. Deputy Matthew Camp entered the water, swam to the child, and brought him safely back to shore. Medical personnel evaluated the child at the scene before he was reunited with his family, and the sheriff’s office said he was doing well.
