Why 'How Long Gone' Created Their Own Awards Show -- and 'Squashed the Beef' With Bowen Yang
A cross-country crowd is preparing for the “Goneies,” the inaugural live awards show from the pop-culture podcast “How Long Gone.” Hosts Chris Black and Jason Stewart say the concept began as a joke, inspired by the “Las Culturistas Awards” on “Las Culturistas,” and evolved into a full event set for Tuesday at Racket NYC in Manhattan. The show features intentionally playful categories, including “Ally of the Year” and “For the Gay Guy Who’s Rockin With Us the Most,” while the physical trophy is designed for winners to drink from, “like the Stanley Cup.” The name and format were shaped with help from Talkhouse co-founder Ian Wheeler, who floated the event title. The Goneies are also drawing corporate sponsorship, signaling an in-person push beyond digital podcast platforms.
