Widow's Bay Filming Locations: Where Was Hit Apple TV Show Filmed?
The filming locations behind Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay show how New England communities helped create the series’ authentic atmosphere, even though the island is fictional. The show follows Tom Loftis, played by Matthew Rhys, a mayor trying to transform his isolated hometown into a tourist destination. Rather than relying heavily on soundstages or fully manufactured sets, production used real coastal Massachusetts towns with maritime history, weathered architecture, and longstanding traditions. Rhys told The Boston Globe that the region provided a “mythical mysticism” that the team felt immediately after shooting. Much of the production took place in Gloucester and Rockport, including Rockport’s Bearskin Neck district, and in the Cape Ann area. While Widow’s Bay itself is not on any map and was created for the series, creators intentionally used surrounding realism to support the illusion.
