America doesn't have to be Big Pharma's profit center

A pair of former U.S. congressmen argues that America remains a major source of profits for “Big Pharma” while prescription drug prices stay unaffordable. They cite the scale of the problem—millions weighing whether to fill prescriptions or pay rent—and say drug costs contribute to up to $500 billion a year in avoidable healthcare expenses. The piece claims the U.S. accounts for 75% of Big Pharma’s global profits despite representing 5% of the world’s population, charging more than at comparable markets such as Canada, Germany, Japan and the UK. It points to Eliquis pricing differences, and says momentum is building for a “Most Favored Nation” (MFN) policy, backed by a White House executive order.
