Bay City man gets jail time for 'extremely violent' assault on pregnant girlfriend
A Bay City, Michigan, man, Dylan L. Haddix, was sentenced to serve about one more year in jail for what the judge called an “extremely violent” assault on his pregnant girlfriend. Haddix appeared before Bay County Circuit Judge Jessie Scott Wood on Monday, July 20, after pleading guilty in May to attempted assault with intent to do great bodily harm and assaulting, resisting, or obstructing police. The court credited him with 203 days already served, leaving a balance of roughly 162 days. The sentencing followed testimony and arguments that Haddix’s conduct deviated from his character, with defense attorney Alan A. Crawford citing a traumatic brain injury from a 2014 motorcycle crash. Police said the victim was five months pregnant when they responded to an assault complaint on Dec. 29 and that she was intubated after being treated at McLaren Bay Region. A physician reported a brain bleed and possible broken neck. The victim did not attend to deliver an impact statement. After release, Haddix is expected to return to Nevada, his former residence.
