Billy Joel says he can't perform again amid brain disorder
Billy Joel said in an Oct. 15 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that doctors have advised him against performing and driving while he undergoes additional testing after a diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus. The 77-year-old described the condition as affecting balance, memory, vision and hearing, and compared the strain of shows to “getting a concussion” each time. He said he is “not allowed to drive,” though he still hopes to return to the stage pending further medical evaluation. Joel’s situation comes ahead of a Gooding Christie’s auction of more than 70 motorcycles from his collection on Nov. 20-21 at New York’s Javits Center. In September, he previously revealed shunt surgery and said it improved balance; a prior Google-related rumor about his death was later denied by his representative.
