Cardiff hospital park and ride could become AI data centre reports that a proposal to replace the Cardiff East Park and Ride in Llanrumney with a data centre has drawn criticism. The plan, submitted to Cardiff council by Curtis Hall Limited, would support services including artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Tenants’ union Acorn asked for the proposal to be rejected, saying it would cause “complete chaos” for people trying to reach hospital access. The Cardiff and Vale health board currently runs a free park and ride service for about 1,000 cars from Cardiff East to University Hospital of Wales for staff, patients, and visitors. Dan Snipe, 29, called it a “lifeline,” while resident Hannah Dahwa, 40, said it could reduce wellbeing and health. Cai Parry-Jones, a Member of the Senedd for Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf, said the site had become essential for healthcare access. Curtis Hall Limited said it will work with the council and health board and that the health board’s role is best to address access concerns. The council said it is working with the health board to identify an alternative site if approved; the health board expects the existing service to remain operational until the end of 2026, with interim arrangements under discussion.
