A study published in BMC Nursing suggests a training approach for nurses called a “clinical champion” can improve geriatric knowledge and practical competence, though attitude gains may fade over time. Researchers assessed 101 clinical nurses in China using a quasi-experimental design, measuring outcomes before the program, 48 hours after, one month later, and three months later. The program combined focused training for the clinical champion role, knowledge sharing and translating guidance into practice, plus implementation support with feedback. Results showed measurable improvements in geriatric knowledge and competence, while the program’s temporary boost in attitudes toward caring for older patients was no longer statistically significant after three months.
