Crime, terrorists, Trump airport. 120+ new Florida laws start July 1

More than 120 new Florida laws take effect Wednesday, July 1, reshaping areas ranging from criminal penalties to housing, education and public records. The package increases penalties for child abuse and domestic violence, allows the state to designate foreign and domestic terrorist organizations, and makes it easier for teacher, nurse and government worker unions to be shut down. It also expands protections related to pets, increases details in the state animal abuse database, and includes housing under the Florida Fair Housing Act. Among other provisions, the laws create new public-records exemptions for victims of domestic and dating violence, add autism training for law enforcement and schools, regulate data centers, extend naming for a “President Donald J. Trump Highway” and a “President Donald J. Trump-Palm Beach International Airport,” and revise rules for non-profits. Governor Ron DeSantis has vetoed only four bills so far, including HB 325 and SB 382.
