Dead, 7 hurt in Chicago shootings during 4th of July weekend, according to CPD reflects a violent holiday period reported by Chicago police. At least two people were killed and seven others were injured, including two police officers, during shootings over the Fourth of July weekend. Victims ranged in age from 18 to 54. On Thursday, officers responded just before 10 p.m. to a shooting in the 7200 block of South Green Street, where a 31-year-old man was shot in the left leg and later taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. About minutes later, a 51-year-old man was shot in the right arm in the 6500 block of South Claremont Avenue and was transported to U of C Hospital in serious condition. Earlier reports from Friday included an 18-year-old shot while walking near South Indiana Avenue, and an incident where two uniformed officers were hurt after a traffic stop, with one officer’s vest stopping a bullet. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating.
