Displaced after charging e-bike battery explodes in Vermont condo bedroom

A lithium battery used to charge an e-bike sparked a bedroom fire at a condo building in Winooski, Vermont, displacing 12 residents and sending two tenants to UVM Medical Center, NBC5 reported. The fire began shortly after 5 p.m. on Elm Street when the charging battery exploded and ignited a mattress. Firefighters from Winooski arrived with help from the Burlington Fire Department and contained the blaze in about five minutes, limiting damage to the row homes. Residents across the complex were evacuated, and 12 people couldn’t return due to water damage while they coordinate next steps with the landlord.
