Even The World Cup Could Not Reverse Tourism Slump For U.S.

The FIFA World Cup did not reverse the U.S. tourism slump this summer, according to National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) data cited by the Commerce Department. International visitor arrivals fell 3% in July versus July 2025. Overseas arrivals were down 1.8% in June year over year after a 3.4% drop in June a year earlier. NTTO estimated about 400,000 fewer foreign arrivals in June than in the same month of the prior year. While international visitors spent about $400 million more on travel-related goods and services in June than in June 2025, U.S. airline fares from overseas visitors totaled $2.8 billion, up less than half a percent.
