Experimental Lilly combination drug tops Zepbound in weight-loss trial

Eli Lilly says its experimental obesity drug EloraTZP outperformed Zepbound in a head-to-head trial, sharpening competition with Novo Nordisk. In the study, patients with diabetes taking the highest tested dose of EloraTZP—combining tirzepatide and experimental eloralintide—lost an average 23.3% of body weight over 48 weeks. By comparison, patients on the top Zepbound dose (mid-stage trial) lost 14.8%. Lilly also reported improvements in blood sugar, with A1C falling up to 2.9% versus 2.4% for tirzepatide alone. Discontinuations due to side effects ranged from 10.8% to 27% with EloraTZP, higher during dose escalation, and Lilly plans to refine titration schedules.
