Facial Feminization Surgery
A new book titled “Facial Feminization Surgery” examines facial feminization surgery (FFS), which includes multiple procedures aimed at alleviating gender dysphoria among transgender and non-binary people. The text notes that demand for FFS has grown substantially, prompting the need for expanded discussion and education within the plastic surgery community. It also says there has not been a standardized reference for plastic and reconstructive surgeons and trainees specifically focused on FFS. Chapters cover topics including anatomical differences between cis-masculine and cis-feminine faces, operative techniques for procedures such as forehead reduction, hairline advancement, brow lift, rhinoplasty, lip lift, genioplasty, facial fat grafting, and chondrolaryngoplasty. It further addresses operating room setup, anesthesia considerations, and postoperative hospitalization protocols, alongside preoperative consultation and pre-rehabilitation, including interdisciplinary collaboration and the role of virtual surgical planning.
