The FDA has issued a Class II recall for more than 3,700 bottles of generic blood pressure medication found ineffective. The recall covers Olmesartan medoxomil, amlodipine and hydrochlorothiazide tablets after lab tests showed the olmesartan component failed quality checks in two lots. Specifically, the agency said dissolution testing indicated the drug does not dissolve appropriately when placed in liquid, which can hinder effectiveness or lead to an incorrect dose. The product is used to treat hypertension. The recall was announced last week, with Macleods Pharmaceuticals—based in New Jersey—issuing the recall earlier in October. Included are 3,528 bottles of 30-count (lot 12251163A) and 216 bottles of 90-count (lot 12251163B), both expiring May 31.
