Former ministers, including a former head of government, and global health leaders have issued a Global Communiqué urging the G20 and all governments to treat Alzheimer’s disease with urgency as a global health priority. The statement, initiated by Dr. Nora Berra, former Minister for Seniors and former Health Minister of France, calls for prevention to be the foundation of action and for a permanent mechanism to sustain political commitment. With artificial intelligence featuring in the G20 agenda, signatories say governments should use the opportunity to harness AI in the fight against Alzheimer’s and advance brain health worldwide. The communiqué notes that biological changes begin 10 to 20 years before symptoms, and that nearly half of dementia cases could be prevented or delayed by adjusting risk factors over a lifetime.
