German Doctor Convicted of Killing 15 Patients
A German court sentenced a doctor, identified only as Johannes M. under privacy rules, to life imprisonment for killing at least 15 patients, according to BBC reporting dated July 8, 2026. Prosecutors said the man, 41, murdered 12 women and 3 men between September 2021 and July 2024, with victims aged 25 to 94. The court heard that the patients were critically ill, but that their deaths were not imminent, and prosecutors alleged that during home visits he administered a lethal combination of medicines without consent. Authorities also said he set fires on several occasions to cover his tracks, and that prosecutors believe he killed two patients in a single day shortly before his arrest in July 2024. A judge, Sylvia Busch, said the convictions for 15 murders may represent only a portion of his crimes, with prosecutors suspecting more than 70 victims. The article references prior German case reporting, including the conviction of nurse Niels Högel, and discusses claims about euthanasia-related drugs and training hypotheses.
