Google launches Fitbit Air in India, though its high price might deter the masses
Google launched the screen-less Fitbit Air fitness tracker in India, pricing it at ₹13,999 (about $146), positioning it as a premium device despite a $99 list price in the U.S. The tracker, unveiled in May, offers 24/7 heart-rate monitoring, heart rhythm monitoring with A-fib alerts, blood oxygen level, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep stages, and sleep duration. Google is betting on demand for distraction-free health gadgets as users shy away from screens, competing with screen-less wearables from Garmin, Luffu Link (Fitbit founders’ new company), and Indian rivals such as Noise and Urban. The Fitbit Air is sold via the Google Store and retailers including Flipkart and Croma from Oct. 2, with Google Health premium for free for three months.
