Health board launches consultation on Penley Hospital plans
xCruzo Brief
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has launched a public consultation on plans to transform Penley Hospital into an NHS Health and Wellbeing Hub, after the building’s “temporary closure” in December 2024. The consultation runs until 7 October 2026 and will consider how the site could be reused for the first time since the closure. The board says inpatients were moved to Chirk Community Hospital at the time due to “low patient occupancy.” Three options are on the table: an NHS-run hub with services but no overnight stays; a community-run hub led by local organisations and charities; or community services delivered without using the hospital building via home visits, local clinics, and online appointments.
